Do savings accounts offer checks?

Banks typically do not allow you to write checks for purchases and payments made through a savings account, which is something you would be able to do with a checking account.

The reason for this is that federal law sets limits for the types of withdrawals you can make from your savings account. Transfers to other accounts at the same bank can count as withdrawals. With a checking account, you can make as many withdrawals as you’d like. But with a savings account, you are typically limited to six per month unless you make them in person, by mail, over the phone, or at an ATM.

To note: Please check with your bank, as this example may not apply to your individual circumstance.
