Stash Learn

Why are some of my Smart Portfolio investments not available in other portfolio types (like personal, retire, or custodial)?

Stash has a team of experienced investment professionals monitoring risks and opportunities in the investment marketplace. We provide oversight by making sure that every investment on our platform is suitable for investing, but the actual investment decision-making occurs differently in different types of Stash accounts.

Smart Portfolio is designed to take the guesswork out of investing by letting us invest for you. Based on the information you provide, we determine if an investment is suitable for you or not. We ensure that every investment introduced into your portfolio considers important principles, like diversification and more.

Other parts of our platform are designed to let customers explore investment opportunities in a more flexible way—we provide robust financial education, market insights, and investment oversight, but allow customers to access investment opportunities that meet our criteria. With these other portfolio types, we provide personalized investment advice through a diversification score analysis.

However,  in the self-directed area of our platform, we provide additional oversight of certain investments—and may restrict access to certain types of riskier assets that are approved for use only in Smart Portfolio.

We apply the same duty of care to all of our clients, but we provide advice in different ways, depending on the type of account.

DISCLOSURES
